A kiln that Takegawa Chikusai (1809-1882) opened with the hopes of revitalizing Kobanko pottery and encouraging new industry.
From the winter of 1855 through the spring of the following year, Chikusai built a small kiln on his property and began experimenting with making pottery.
He built a stepped-chamber kiln in Egemae, and officially opened for business in 1856.
A total of 72 of Takegawa’s works are designated tangible cultural properties (fine arts and crafts), including a garden lantern remaining on the property of the Takegawa family, 42 total works of 25 different types, including Chinese lions, and an additional 30 works in 13 different styles of Banko pottery.
