Izawa-ji Bunsho

Overview

Two scrolls, 41 documents / Kamakura to Muromachi Period / Izawa-cho, privately owned / writings in ink on paper, and a hand scroll.
Prefecturally-designated tangible important property (Old text) (April 1, 1972)

When Izawa-ji temple was closed in 1878, Takegawa Chikusai feared that the ancient documents which the Kitabatake family of provisional governors had given to the temple would be lost, so he placed them in the Izawa library
Hand scroll. The first scroll is 31.5cm long, 960cm wide and contains 20 documents. The second scroll is 26.0cm long, 902cm wide and has 21 documents.

These documents were placed in Izawa-ji temple from the mid to late Muromachi period in order to protect the claims and interests of the Kitabatake family.
